To find the number of pre-owned Cirrus airplanes for sale many pilots will go to popular websites, such as Controller or Trade-a-plane. In July 2017, there were 195 Cirrus piston airplanes for sale on Controller. Here’s the summary listing on the Controller website.
Pre-Owned Cirrus Airplanes for Sale
If you’re shopping for a Cirrus does this mean you have a couple hundred to choose from – not really. Here’s why. Most pilots transitioning to a Cirrus airplane initially decide if they want the SR22 or SR20 model. Say you want to purchase a SR22. It looks like there are 163 to choose from but that number needs to be adjusted.
First, if you’re in the United States, you’ll probably not buy a foreign based plane. So, you’ll want to subtract foreign sales from the list. Second, fractional sales may not be an option you want. Unless you’re in the same city and want to consider the fractional sale. Third, Controller does not list Generation 1 (SR22-G1) airplanes. Instead, they have two categories, one labeled “SR22 Turbo and the other SR22.” These categories consistently mix G1 airplanes and later model years in the wrong category.
Cirrus is a leader in GA airplane manufacturing innovation. Model features changed almost every year and sometimes during calendar production years. The Cirrus Model Generations (G1, G2, G3, G5 & G6) mark significant feature milestone changes. You can review prior articles on this website for the details.
Most pilots have a budget which will correspond to a Cirrus Model Generation. This further reduces the available list of planes to consider. If you’re new to Cirrus airplanes, review the prior articles on Cirrus Sweet Spots, 5 Budgets and 5 Categories for more information.
Next week I’ll publish an adjusted list and account for some of these items.
