Wheels Up! 2014

In June 2010, wikiWings was founded.

But this June marks my first anniversary of general aviation writing on the wikiWings blog.  The goal was to publish one article every Friday morning, which seems like a modest assignment, but it became a challenge during some weeks as my work and family priorities pressed in.

I began the year by writing a five article series about my experience selling a 1976 Piper Archer.  It was a tough sellers market!  But persistence paid off and a fair sales price was obtained, which allowed me to re-enter a general aviation buyers’ market for another airplane.  If you’re trying to sell an airplane yourself I hope those articles help you.

I reviewed the General Aviation Management Association’s (GAMA) reports to better understand sales of piston single-engine aircraft, which led to publishing a number of articles on market share by manufacturer.  My focus was mostly on four-seat piston single-engine aircraft.  Over the next year, I’ll continue to write about market share in this category.

Among piston single-engine four-seat planes, new sales strongly favor Composite Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA), while fifty-year old aluminum designs with glass-panel avionics are continuing to lose market share.  Previously owned aircraft sales seem to be moving in the same direction. The study led me to buy a 2008 Cirrus Perspective SR22TN-G3 Turbo GTSx.

Over the next year, I’ll continue to write about my flying experience in the Cirrus SR22TN-G3 Turbo and features of the Cirrus Perspective by Garmin.  So let’s throttle up, and share general aviation stories on technically advanced aircraft and avionics!

For the past year, wikiWings blog visits for 52 articles exceeded 1,600 views.  To all who are reading and commenting I express my thanks. I appreciate the opportunity to share and be part of the general aviation experience with you.
