The new Vision Jet flight deck called Cirrus Perspective Touch by Garmin is impressive. It’s leading technology that sets the standard for the Personal Jet category. The reality is – most existing turboprops and jets aren’t even close to this level of avionics. The avionics are based on Garmin’s G3000 system, and Cirrus says, Perspective Touch “is more integrated and capable than traditional off-the-shelf products.” It is Cirrus and Garmin at their best in yet another collaborative design project that may just be the class leader for years to come.
Remember, in 2008 it was the same innovative cross-organizational teamwork that first released Cirrus Perspective by Garmin in SR22 airplanes – almost a decade ago. A continuing great success.
Try to find a 2008 pre-owned Cirrus Perspective SR22 on the market today. You might see one or none of the 2008 normally aspirated planes and three or four Turbos. The 2008 Perspective pre-own supply slack is just gone. It’s the model year aviators seek for the first Perspective flight decks on Cirrus SR22’s. Pilot demand is strong.
Now, the first Personal Jets with Cirrus Perspective Touch by Garmin are simply bigger, better and faster. The high-resolution flight displays are wider and allow room for split screen displays. The Multi-Function Display (MFD) is enabled to show three vertical screens simultaneously. Functions like engine monitoring, moving map and aircraft system status can all be shown at the same time without toggling between pages. Aircraft systems are displayed with intuitive synoptic views. And, the Primary Flight Display (PFD) shows 3D topographic images for improved situational awareness.
Three sunlight readable color touchscreen controllers in landscape format are positioned below the flight displays to simplify pilot access to information. Cirrus says the layout reduces clutter and functions are easy to find with shallow menus for quick inputs. Adding the third touch screen allows for a dedicated audio/intercom controller.
Each touchscreen uses a grid of infrared beams to determine your touch position. Cirrus says, it’s a faster more responsive data entry even in turbulence. A pop-up touchpad page gives pilots control of the moving map pointer for quicker pan or zoom and easier touch identification of airspace or airport information. A touch key board entry is also part of the system. If you prefer, dual knobs can be used to enter frequencies or toggle among functions instead of the touchscreen. Cirrus calls it touch with a twist.
