What do you feel is the biggest issue facing general aviation in 2016?

Almost one-third (31%) of all pilots thought the cost of flying was the biggest issue facing general aviation in 2016, based on a survey by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Shared ownership offers a good opportunity to reduce your cost of flying. In July 2015, I began  a wikiWings weblog series on Cirrus Aircraft cost of ownership. We need to share this type of information forward because aircraft co-ownership  is the single largest aviation discount available to pilots. The right partnership can save you from 50% – 75% on acquisition and maintenance costs.

If you’re interested in flying Cirrus Aircraft and you’d like more information on operating costs then I hope you’ll follow along with this wikiWings series “Cost of Ownership.” The posts should be helpful and I’d be interested in hearing from you.

Flying clubs offer another opportunity to reduce the cost of general aviation flying. In 2015, AOPA’s Flying Club initiative supported the start-up of 10 new flying clubs and they worked with dozens of other groups to help garner growth, improve operations or initiate formation. Currently, there are almost 650 flying clubs in the AOPA Flying Club Network.

And the survey also said – Thirty-four percent of all pilots thought Third Class Medical Reform was the biggest issue facing general aviation in 2016. And, fifteen percent felt FAA reauthorization and user fees are the biggest issue for this year.
