It’s been coined the “Cirrus Life,” a journey of memorable moments and people carried along in personal stories about flying. It’s also a story about today’s general aviation transportation and how it’s transforming life among businesses, family and friends (#CirrusLife).
At Austin Executive airport, an almost spontaneous gathering of about ninety Cirrus enthusiasts occurred on October 8, 2016. I understand it was the idea of Ed McCombs who is a relatively new owner of a Cirrus SR22. He had enjoyed a gathering of Cirrus pilots at EAA Airventure in Oshgosh Wisconsin and wanted to create a similar dinner event locally. People arrived by car and plane.
Here are some of the moments that occurred that day.
Music, aircraft, food and fellowship and learning
Music lightened the air and Cirrus Aircraft were on display in the large Hendrix Jet Center hangar at Austin Executive airport (KEDC) next to the FBO. The food was catered by a professional chef. It was a two table spread of Tex-Mex chicken, beef tacos, rice, beans, and chips, and all the expected fixin’s. The meal was delicious and the time with fellow pilots too short. The event stayed on schedule:

Itinerary:
5-6:30pm fly in or drive in.
6:30-7:30pm Dinner
7:30pm-8pm Kelsey Groves, Foreflight – Guest Speaker.
8-9pm hang out / Fly out
Kelsey Groves, with Foreflight presented an update on new software features. He took questions and discussed their vision for providing pilots with the best flight planning tools.
There were a large number of Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilots (CSIP’S) in attendance. It gave many aviation enthusiasts an opportunity to ask questions about Cirrus Aircraft and discuss flying topics of interest.
COPA and Cirrus Aircraft representatives were in attendance. Carroll LeBoeuf was there and brought a lot fabulous door prizes which were given away after dinner.
The weather was perfect. Clear skies and a cool breeze dominated the evening and moonlight comforted the departing flights home.
Join COPA Today

If you’re interested in learning more about Cirrus Aircraft you should join the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) today. The COPA website and magazine offer a wealth of information. You’ll also have access to scheduled COPA events in your area and gatherings of Cirrus enthusiasts like this one in Austin, which I understand may become an annual event. If you’re not a COPA member you may never hear about them.
More pilots are migrating to Cirrus Aircraft each year. You can stay up with the flock on COPA.
