A gremlin was intermittently switching our traffic system to standby during flight

Considering the advanced technical nature of Cirrus Perspective by Garmin avionics we’ve found it relatively trouble-free. But recently we had a gremlin in our avionics.  He intermittently switched our traffic system to standby during flight, which required us to select the traffic page and press the soft key to reactivate the system. We chased a gremlin in our Cirrus Perspective avionics

Considering the advanced technical nature of Cirrus Perspective by Garmin avionics platform we’ve found it relatively trouble-free. What’s the cost to update software on the Cirrus Perspective by Garmin?

Recently, we decided to upgrade to a newer software version, which has some additional features and information displays.  We were operating on Cirrus Perspective by Garmin software version 764.15 and wanted to install version 764.24. The estimated time required was about three hours, but we had some problems during the upgrade. Continue reading “What’s the cost to update software on the Cirrus Perspective by Garmin?”

Total time on our airplane was only about 1,000 hours when the original factory installed landing light had to be replaced. These landing lights are suppose to last 5,000 hours, but the electrical connector shorted out which then shorted out the landing light.  Both the harness and light had to be replaced. It’s a costly failure to repair.

The Cirrus Authorized Service Center said they’ve seen the same problem before. Continue reading “A bad electrical connector on the factory installed landing light caused a costly repair”

We recently purchased more aircraft TKS anti-icing de-icing fluid. You can find TKS fluid sold for retail in 2.5 gallon containers.  The 2.5 gallon container we purchased was $75.00 plus $6.19 sales tax.  That would make your average cost about $32.48 per gallon including the sales tax.

We avoided some shipping cost by purchasing locally.  This year we went to AvLab, Aviation Laboratories 5401 Mitchelldale, #B6, Houston Texas 77092.

Save your TKS bottles for refill. Our local Cirrus Service Center purchases Continue reading “What’s the cost for TKS fluid and how much does it weigh?”

How do you present owners’ equity on the balance sheet of a shared airplane ownership?

Welcome! This is the third anniversary of my general aviation writing on wikiWings® and the modest goal continues – publish one article each Friday morning.

Last year’s season began with articles on Cost of Ownership. It’s a topic of interest for many visitors to wikiWings®.  A primary focus is Cirrus Aircraft operating cost, but many of the posts also relate to GA flying. There are now more than 50 detailed posts on the cost to fly.

You can view all cost of flying articles in chronological order by selecting categories on the wikiWings home page. Category selection is located in the upper right hand margin. Just click on “Cost of Ownership” in the drop-down menu.

How do you list aircraft value on the balance sheet?

A co-owned airplane should list the net aircraft value on the balance sheet . The initial value is usually the acquisition price or market value; which is determined when a buyer and seller come to agreement on a transaction. That price is usually adjusted on the balance sheet for depreciation. Continue reading “How do you list aircraft value on the balance sheet?”
