Its been more than a decade since the first normally aspirated SR22 third generation planes began shipment. Very few of these pre-owned planes are available for sale today. “That was then and this is now.” Let’s look at how the market has changed. What are the asking prices for Avidyne SR22-G3 normally aspirated planes?

It’s estimated that Cirrus shipped about 250 normally aspirated Avidyne equipped SR22 generation three airplanes from 2007 into 2008. Recently, only two (2) were listed for sale, which represents less than 1% of the manufacturer production on the market (anything less than 3% is considered supply contraction). A summary of SR22-G3 improvements 2007-2012

With its new wing, the third generation Cirrus became the longest and largest production run of the SR22 model turning out about 1,690 airplanes during the six years from 2007 – 2012. And, the innovations continued.
Understanding the design milestones during this time will help you group G3 planes with similar features that affect pre-owned asking prices. Here are four significant time periods associated with the third generation SR22: Continue reading “A summary of SR22-G3 improvements 2007-2012”
How many Cirrus SR22-G3 airplanes shipped?

In the spring of 2007, Cirrus started delivery of the third generation SR22 airplane and manufacturing continued until the end of 2012. Beginning with serial number 2438, Cirrus shipped about 1,690 SR22-G3 planes during those six years.
All of these planes had a wing up on the competition. In 2007, a re-engineered wing structure was a central change to SR22-G3 models. And, according to Cirrus, there were more than 700-plus design changes to the Generation Three airframe and systems inside (read “Introduction Cirrus SR22 Generation Three for details“).
But innovation and improvements to the airplane continued after the G3 introduction in 2007. We’ll highlight those developments next week.
In 2013, shipment of the fifth generation SR22-G5 began (Cirrus skipped the G4 designation). Continue reading “How many Cirrus SR22-G3 airplanes shipped?”
Introduction Cirrus SR22 Generation Three (G3)
The SR22-G3 Generation Three debuted in the spring of 2007. The plane’s appearance on the ramp was visibly different. It stood taller. And, according to Cirrus, there are more than 700-plus design changes to the Generation Three airframe and systems inside.
Robert Goyer, editor of Flying Magazine, has flown hundreds of hours in Cirrus G1 and G2 aircraft but he says, “In terms of handling . . . they never felt great until [the G3]. The new G3 handles beautifully.” “The G3 simply flies better than the G2.” Continue reading “Introduction Cirrus SR22 Generation Three (G3)”
How many Cessna 400, Corvalis, Cessna TTx airplanes shipped?

After the purchase of Columbia Aircraft company in 2007, Cessna sold a total of 323 advance high performance composite aircraft. The planes had a number of names during that time: Cessna 400, Corvalis TTx, Cessna TTX, Cessna TTx, and Cessna 350, Corvalis 350.
Only 23 planes were shipped in 2017. Slow sales stalled out cash flow.
This year, Textron confirmed production termination of the Cessna TTx turbo. The stoppage occurred after a decade long run up attempt. The normally aspirated Cessna 350 ceased production in 2013.
The dominate competitor, Cirrus Aircraft out sold Cessna’s shipments of the Columbia designed high performance composite by 12 to 1. Continue reading “How many Cessna 400, Corvalis, Cessna TTx airplanes shipped?”
A hailstorm of mismanagement downs a good airplane

February 2018, Textron confirmed production termination of the Cessna TTx. The stoppage occurred after a decade long runup attempt. Slow sales stalled out cash flow. Only 23 planes were shipped in 2017.
The beginning of the end struck in 2006, when a hailstorm damaged 60 airplanes on the factory ramp in Bend Oregon. The weather related impairment sealed Columbia Aircraft’s departure – they filed for bankruptcy. Cessna purchased the design in 2007. Why were so many planes awaiting customer delivery? Cirrus SR22-G2 GTS, That was then, This is now
